This piece was in response to my own growing awareness of the amount of waste being produced by humanity, the polluting nature of this waste, and the idea that transforming and incorporating the old items into new objects is one small way, among many, to work against this pollution. Much of this inspiration came from documentaries about recycling communities in countries like Ghana and India that transform waste materials into new objects. Similarly, I sought to use the processes of forging to transform objects that had come to the end of their useful lives. I wanted to do this in a way that would retain some of the objects previous form but obviously produce something new, highlighting the transition from one manifestation to another.
